Our Story

Cattywampus Crafts is owned and operated by the creative husband and wife team Kirk and Anna Nozaki. Kirk and Anna moved to Ojai from Los Angeles in 2014 when seeking a small, engaging community immersed in nature where they could raise their daughter. Once landing in Ojai, they were inspired by the local makers and wanted to contribute to the incredible residents and visitors in the magical valley they now call home.

Cattywampus Crafts was envisioned as an inspiring gathering place and resource for makers and lovers of beautifully crafted goods. It is a celebration of creativity and handmade living. Kirk and Anna's intention is that everyone realizes their innately creative spirit. We aim to source goods made using all natural materials and sustainable practices. In the shop, you will find vintage curiosities, vinyl records, clothes, jewelry, books, ceramics, stationery, yarn, fabric, sewing supplies, and so much more - all things to suit a creative California lifestyle. Exploring our shop is a delightful surprise. Come with an open mind and we promise you'll leave happily inspired.

The shop opened in the spring of 2016 in a 1970 building that used to be a diner. Kirk and Anna renovated the space by striping everything down to its origins. The sandblasted wood beamed ceiling and walls of windows create a warm, comfortable space. There is a lounge area open to spontaneous gatherings of creative minds and makers. In addition to the retail shop area, there is a large classroom in back where events of all sorts are hosted. Classes include natural dyeing, knitting, sewing, weaving, macrame, meditation, floral design, and much more.

After 5 wonderful years of collaborating with makers, connecting with this creative community, and getting to know many incredible people, Kirk and Anna closed their Ojai store and web shop. They are moving to the PNW to pursue their next dream, be with family, and enjoy one another while existing in a cooler, wetter climate.

Kirk Nozaki

Kirk Nozaki has extensive experience in the fashion business designing clothes and home decor. His innovative designs have been sold worldwide and precede trends. Kirk's interest in architecture, music, and the natural world are persistent influences on his designs and life. He spent most of his life living in Los Angeles and now enjoys a quieter life in Ojai.

Anna Nozaki

Anna Nozaki is an award winning art director and graphic designer. She is originally from a small town in Alaska. Though she has lived in a number of big cities, she is delighted to be settled in a small community now, surrounded by nature. Anna is happiest when immersed in creative pursuits and especially loves making things for their daughter Naomi.
