What are you currently into making?
I'm currently planning some paintings. I bought several large handmade canvases from a thrift shop and painted several layers of white gesso so that I have blank canvases to work with (that were also recycled canvases for a couple dollars each-- best of all!)
What was the first project or craft you remember making by hand?
Gah, I really can't recall my first project. I went to Montessori school in Ojai for my first years of school and remember doing a lot of crafty projects there.
If you could spend a day with any artist/designer/maker… who would it be and what would you do?
There are so many artists of different disciplines that I admire so this is a tough question! I would love to be a fly on the wall when Patti Smith is writing poetry.
Do you listen to music when you’re making? If so, what are some favorite albums?
Yes! Music really gets me going. I listen to everything from jazz, to classical, blues, 70s rock, and rap music. Currently loving Chilly Gonzales Solo Piano albums as well as J.J. Cale's Naturally album!
What’s your favorite material to work with?
That is also a tough question. I love all types of crafting! Although right now it's painting. Last year it was sewing.
Where do you go to connect with nature?
Gardening. I love the patience and awareness that it requires. I have a small raised bed and several patches of land that I'm planting mostly edible flowers and herbs. I'm not a pro by any means but it's been a relaxing and inspiring project.
Tell us about an object in your home that brings you joy.
I recently got 2 canary birds-- Piña and Mandarín are their names. They're so fun to watch and have been bringing me immense joy.
