This kaftan was created by the Swedish designer and stylist Lotta Jonsdotter for her book Everyday Style. We love its 70's inspiration and flattering cut. The Esme Kaftan is a perfect use of spectacular fabric. It's shape and proportions make it a beautiful canvas for bold prints, colors, and textures. It's extremely wearable. Whether your strolling down the beach, shopping in town, or hosting a cocktail party, this kaftan will have you looking effortlessly chic.  

• adjust pattern to ensure proper, personal fit
• set in sleeve using the flat method
• mark and sew bust line darts
• mark, sew, and top stitch faced slit neckline, trim and clip curves, and under stitch 

MATERIALS REQUIRED • 10% off at Cattywampus for class participants
• sewing machine
• Lotta Jansdotter Everyday Style book
• 4 yards lightweight to mid-weight cotton, double gauze, or linen
• matching thread
• tracing paper for tracing out pattern
• basic sewing kit: fabric scissors, measuring tape, glass head pins, tailor's chalk, seam ripper

TIME • 7 hours (includes time for lunch break)

PREREQUISITE • any beginner sewing class or equivalent experience (basics of laying out a pattern, stitching and pressing straight seams)

TEACHER • Kathleen Blackmur is an enthusiastic home sewer who happily shares her tips and techniques for making wearable, lovable clothes. She is working towards a predominantly handmade wardrobe and loves being so connected to the things surrounding her everyday.
