Itajime shibori (folding and clamping) is a shaped-resist technique that can be used to make many wonderful geometric patterns on fabric. In this camp for kids 8 and older, we will practice the basics of this Japanese indigo dyeing technique and use dyed cloth in a variety of projects. We will incorporate hand stitching to accentuate the dyed patterns.

 • Shibori pattern making techniques, indigo vat dyeing, hand stitching

 • all materials are included in the class fee; kids are invited to additionally bring a small item of clothing to dye (like a t-shirt)

TIME • 3 hours per day x 5 days

TEACHER • Cattywampus co-owner Anna Nozaki loves working with all sorts of materials and sharing the joy of making things by hand.
